The Thread at Vernon Park

Visit our current installation in Germantown in partnership with Friends of Vernon Park

Similar to our inaugural installation at the Rail Park, visitors will find at Vernon Park, a booth fitted with a disconnected rotary phone. Anyone is invited to sit on the bench and use the phone to talk to someone who is unreachable to them.

This year’s installation also features a community mosaic memorial in homage to the park’s Sun Ra mosaic that visitors can help to create by adding a tile in honor of a loved one. We hope that as the mosaic is filled with tiles, the mosaic will serve as a symbol of our shared experience of grief.

On Saturday, June 20, 2024, we held our opening ceremony in partnership with Salt Trails Philly. The ceremony included live music, meditation, grief rituals and open conversation about grief from Germantown community members. We would like to thank the Friends of Vernon Park, Sonya Kearney and Janice Tosto for inviting us in and supporting the second Thread installation at Vernon Park.
